October is the most beautiful month

These are the plants I got at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens plants sale last weekend, settling in before I plant them.

I have especially high hopes for everyone I bought: alum root which are already doing very well for me; ferns which I didn't expect to be so excited about except that in Cloverdale there are large stands of them and ( because of Zelda Fitzgerald probably) they look like Art Deco feathers to me; native plants that the folks at the plants sale raved about; some native azaleas that Auntie recommended; and  cilantro, which needs no explanation.

Did I mention to both of you that I'm giving up on summer to focus on winter, spring, and fall? Here's what is blooming for me now: Clara Curtis mums from my mom, Georgia aster, Guara 'whirling butterflies,' swamp sunflower, a wild aster (perhaps calico aster?), and almost blooming is a type of evergreen chrysanthemum that I got from Petals from the Past.
Below these photos are photos from my walk around the neighborhood yesterday morning. I included a photo of my favorite tree in the neighborhood. It looks so California and the nicest gardener lives there. This name is John and he and his wife have lived in that house for something like forty-five years. James and I walked past one day and when I complimented his garden and tree, he invited us for a full yard tour.

The names of the plants above are likely not in order because right now blogger won't let me see anything below the picture of Clara Curtis, just below.
